Arts in connection to the Self

Expressive Arts help us examine the complex constellations of human emotions through the arts. Expressive Arts are intermodal, meaning that we use many modalities, often at the same time, to express ourselves. Can you dance to your painting? Can you paint to the music? Can you make music about a story? Storytelling and creative writing help us “interpret” our art and try to listen to themes that emerge. Expressive Arts are low skill/ high sensitivity, in other words the goal is not the end product, it is attunement to the process and what we can see ourselves in what we create.

Sample projects: paper-machê masks, life-sized self portraits, cereal box theater, mandalas, Soul Collage, art from prompts, feelings journals, personified poetry, story maps.
